Chania, often transcribed as Hania, is a town on the northwest coast of western Crete. It is also the island’s second-largest city, with over 50,000 inhabitants. Long occupied by the Venetians, then the Turks, both influences can be seen in its architecture and town planning. It is considered one of the prettiest towns on Crete. Don’t miss the Venetian port with its 15th-century lighthouse and the old town, which has been sumptuously restored. For more cultural delights, the city is also home to some remarkable museums.
