At the end of Ermou Street, the city’s main shopping avenue, the Monastiraki flea market is full of unexpected treasures. If you’re after something more upscale, head to the elegant Kolonaki district, and particularly Voukourestiou Street, known for its chic boutiques. Enjoy a private transfer to the airport. At Knossos, history and mythology intertwine. The Greek myths are filled with stories of the Minoan civilization that once dominated the Aegean. It’s here that Daedalus is said to have built the famous labyrinth where King Minos imprisoned victims for the Minotaur’s hunger. The Athenian hero Theseus ultimately defeated the monster, aided by Minos’s own daughter, Ariadne.
Finally, arrive in Heraklion for an evening in Crete’s vibrant capital. This cradle of European civilization is a modern city that still preserves remarkable traces of its glorious past.
