Welcome to Corfu, which gives its name to both the island and the main town. You’ll be staying here for the duration of your stay: it’s a delight to stroll through the old town, with its pleasant maze of narrow streets, where you can have fun guessing the various architectural influences, including Venetian. From the historic center, take a stroll up to the Palaio Frourio, the old fort built at the end of a rocky peninsula, which offers lovely panoramic views. Or if you fancy a refreshing dip, take the 15-minute walk to the pier at the end of the harbour for an impromptu dip!
On your second day in Corfu, why not discover its history? A rich cultural heritage awaits you: from the church of Agios Spyridonas, the island’s patron saint, to the arches of Spianada Square, designed by the same architect as those of Rue de Rivoli in Paris, there’s something for everyone. You can also discover the island’s history by visiting its emblematic museums, such as the Corfu Archaeological Museum or the Byzantine Museum. If you’re a museum lover, don’t miss Corfu’s other special feature: a splendid Asian arts museum, the only one of its kind in Greece!
Today, it’s time to explore the island! Head for the many picturesque villages that make up the island’s charm: you can visit the village of Giannades, home to just 600 inhabitants but 2 excellent restaurants, or the villages of Agio Mathaios or Pelekas. Along the way, don’t forget to admire the panoramic sea views. For those looking for something a little more out of the ordinary, head for Pontikonisi, an islet with a monastery, or Achillieon, known as “Sissi’s palace” when Empress Elisabeth lived there.

Try the famous “pastitsada“, a recipe for coq au vin cooked in a secret way and served with typical pasta, or enjoy a “sofrito“, a typical veal dish accompanied by a white wine sauce with lemon and herbs. – The old town of Corfu reflects the variety of its influences: Greek, Venetian, Turkish, French, British, etc. The historic centre is unique and you can spend hours wandering through the maze of little winding streets, especially in summer. It is also worth visiting the archaeological museum to see some incredible statues.
– Laze by one of the little inlets which run alongside the wonderful coastal road between Ipsos and Kassiopi on the north-east coast.
– Go to Paleokastritsa, on the west coast, for its seaside resort and in particular for its 13th century monastery perched on an impressive headland. From there you will get a spectacular view across the bay.
– Take the little mountain roads that go from Corfu to Sidari. The breathtaking panoramas of the Ionian Sea and small mountain villages will soon have you forgetting about the winding roads.
